One of the key purposes of the Standards Toolkit is
to share lessons learned and tools created by local education
funds during the two-year Standards Initiative.
The tools contained here represent best practices of
structuring conversation—and action—that
can help accelerate understanding and implementation
of standards. The engagement tools are organized according
to the stakeholder groups with which they are intended
to be used: parents, community,
and educators.
|
Examples of tools include:
|
|
•
|
A professional
development approach—developed by the
Fund for Educational Excellence in Baltimore,
MD—in which principals "walk through" schools
to provide feedback on evidence of standards-based
classrooms and other academic priorities.
|
|
•
|
A School
Report Card—developed by the Public
Education Fund in Providence, RI—that helps
the community monitor progress of student achievement.
|
|
•
|
A Summer Family
Literacy Institute—developed by APPLE
Corps in Atlanta, GA—that builds the community's
capacity to train parents to help their students
develop literacy skills.
