Durham Public Education Network (DPEN) is working to
expand community engagement efforts in Durham to embrace
all residents as partners with high expectations for
all children. Seeking to deepen and broaden the community’s
ability to use education advocacy, policy, current legislation,
and judicial rulings to create a local and statewide
environment of educational excellence, DPEN plans to
achieve the following goals in three years:
|
•
|
Increase engagement of a broad cross-section of
the Durham community in public education, particularly
individuals not typically represented.
|
|
•
|
Increase DPEN’s effectiveness as an advocate
for local and statewide policy change through organizational
leadership and collaboration with other individuals
and organizations.
|
|
•
|
Foster collaboration and integration of existing
programs and services and the development of new
services to help close the achievement gap based
on community input via a Community Action Plan,
and on data analysis via analysis of resource equity.
|
|
•
|
Create an inclusive infrastructure for communication
and collaboration around the issue of standards
and accountability in the public school system.
|
|
•
|
Generate a more positive community culture based
on accountability, trust, greater public understanding
of and involvement in public education issues,
specifically those related to standards and accountability,
to empower the community to take responsibility
and seek accountability.
