Community Assessment Framework:
Make Sense of the Data

To create an overall assessment of the baseline data in each of the five core areas, pay close attention to the following factors:

1.

General strengths and weaknesses in the community

2.

The extent, availability, and accessibility of key programs and services in each area

3.

The extent to which these programs and services serve all children

4.

Major gaps in services that are apparent

5.

How issues of race and class might affect or explain any of the gaps in services or barriers to success

6.

The potential for community programs and services to be linked to public school systems and the potential of school programs and services to be linked with the community

Based on the strengths, weaknesses, and availability of services, make an overall assessment of the current level of school-community partnerships in your community.

Four Steps in This Community Assessment

1.

Develop local measures

2.

Organize several forms of data

3.

Make sense of the data

4.

Develop strategies for improvement
