Did You Know...

1. That in the reauthorization before NCLB (the Improving America’s Schools Act of 1994), private school children were held to the same statewide standards as public school children, using the same assessment methods as well. 2003 Policy Guidance from the US Department of Education changed that under NCLB?

2. That since private schools do not have to comply with the same accountability standards as public schools, the school district must work with each private school they serve to come up with a system of standards and assessments?

3. That the public school district is responsible for selecting the private school students to participate in NCLB, after consulting with the private schools about setting up selection criteria?

4. That private school student receiving NCLB services are not eligible to receive supplemental educational services (SES) as do public school students. SES does NOT qualify as one of the “equitable” services under NCLB?

5. That private schools receiving NCLB services do not have to identify their low income schools as “needs improvement” or “corrective action” as do the public schools under NCLB requirements?

6. That the parents of students that receive NCLB services must be involved on an equitable basis with public school parents related to parent involvement plans and programs?
