Ballard High School Principal Phil Brockman has won $50,000 for his school as this year's recipient of the Thomas B. Foster Award for Excellence.
Brockman is the seventh winner of the award, given each year by the nonprofit Alliance for Education to honor an outstanding secondary-school principal in the Seattle School District.
The award is named for the late founder of Seattle's Foster Pepper law firm.
Brockman is a graduate of Ballard High and became principal there in fall 2004.
