Editorial Content and Submission Policies for PEN Weekly NewsBlast We receive many inquiries about contributing items for publication in the PEN Weekly NewsBlast. This page outlines NewsBlast content and format guidelines. Please read this page in its entirety before sending your submission. Instructions for submitting NewsBlast content are at the end.   News Coverage The vast majority of the weekly content published in the NewsBlast consists of brief summaries of published news accounts, poll data, research reports, education-related publications, and opinion and commentary pieces that feature information and strategies on improving public education in the United States. We welcome news submissions, press releases and other suggestions for coverage. The NewsBlast does not publish any articles that are not already published on the Internet. Please include a direct web link (URL) for all sources (e.g., newspaper stories). In addition, NewsBlast subscribers prefer links to content that is does not require local site registration or special software. We may edit text for length, format, style, and tone. The PEN Weekly NewsBlast is a text-based newsletter and we do not include items that require images, italics, underlining, and bold print. We generally do not publish news items that fall into the categories below: • Publications, books or products for sale • Promotion of fee-based services • Job announcements and award recipients • Upcoming conferences and events   Grants & Funding Announcements Information on available grants, fellowships and awards is welcomed. Please send a short item description, including submission deadline, application requirements and a URL where readers can click to get detailed information. We generally do not publish grants & funding items that fall into the categories below: • Grants that are very local and limited to a small audience • Grants that require a processing fee for applicants • Grants that require fee-based or gratuitous quid pro quo   Quotes of the Week We invite the submission of thought-provoking or inspirational quotations. All submissions that we receive are read and considered. We reserve the right to choose or reject submissions based solely on our editorial judgment.   Privacy Policy Your e-mail address is safe with the NewsBlast. It is our firm policy never to rent, loan, or sell our subscriber list to any other organizations, groups, or individuals. The NewsBlast is an opt-in/opt-out newsletter. This requires subscribers to confirm their subscription and unsubscription requests to ensure that reader accounts are not modified without prior knowledge and consent.
