Michigan Residents to Share Views,
Speak Out on No Child Left Behind

The Detroit-based Youth Sports and Recreation Commission and Public Education Network (PEN) will host a public hearing to gain community input on how the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) is playing out in Michigan schools and communities. As NCLB enters its fifth year of implementation, the hearing will provide a forum for citizens to explore questions about the law, share ideas about how it is being implemented, and provide thoughts on what is working and what is not.

Those testifying include students, parents, community leaders and business/civic leaders. The hearing is one of ten public hearings that will be held throughout the country between now and Winter 2006. The results of these hearings will be published and distributed to key federal, state, and local decision- makers, education leaders, and the media, and will include suggested changes and improvements to this far-reaching law.

Citizens who are unable to attend the hearing are encouraged to provide testimony via an online NCLB survey that will be included in the published document.

For additional information, read the national report, Open to the Public: Speaking Out on No Child Left Behind, based on a series of NCLB hearings held throughout the country in 2004.
