Some $45,000 in scholarships, grants and awards are available to McKeesport Area High School seniors again this year from the McKeesport High School Alumni & Friends Association. Fliers outlining the program and scholarships have gone out to parents of members of the Class of 2009. New this year is a $1,000 scholarship established by a 2008 High School Hall of Fame inductee, Mary Jo Sharbaugh Cerepani, Class of 1977, for a student who plans to pursue a career in nursing. Applications are in the guidance office and library of the high school and online at www.tcfpe.org. The alumni group is an initiative of The Consortium for Public Education, an education fund working in partnership with school districts in Western Pennsylvania. The association has approximately 1,000-plus dues-paying members and other supporters, the majority McKeesport graduates. The office is located at 410 Ninth St., McKeesport. Call 412-678-9215. |
