LEFs are community-based advocacy organizations that engage local citizens in public education reform. Though independent of their local school districts, LEFs work closely with public school administrators, teachers, and boards. Their partners are parents, community leaders, businesses, and students.
Our network of local education funds (LEFs) operates in 32 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and five foreign countries. We serve 12 million students in the United States alone - that's 24 percent of America’s public school population. PEN's international affiliates serve more than 8,000,000 children in Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, South Africa, and Tanzania.
Advocates for Excellence
Network members actively promote involvement in public education by all segments of their communities. They work for accountability and achievement of high standards by all students, and improvement in the quality of public schools. They also generate resources for public education by facilitating and managing investments from government, businesses, and philanthropic organizations.
